But it&#8217;s also pushed us to look at ourselves more, understanding our daily challenges and strengths. It&#8217;s pushed us to reflect on the <strong>socio-cultural changes<\/strong> that are happening around us. <a href=\"https:\/\/lifeed.io\/en\/2020\/11\/24\/how-to-support-working-parents-through-lockdown\/\">When we look at the challenges that <strong>working mothers <\/strong>have faced over this time<\/a>, society can learn what needs to change to evolve and adapt to the people that we&#8217;ve become.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is just one of the points that emerged from the virtual <strong>Life Ready Conference 2021<\/strong> <strong>organized by Lifeed<\/strong> in partnership with <strong><em>Il Sole 24 Ore<\/em> and <em>AlleyOop<\/em><\/strong>, moderated by <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Lifeed CEO Riccarda Zezza.<\/strong><\/span> Six managers who are also mothers took part in the panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting with the Lifeed survey results, we started discussing the question:<strong> \u201c<em>How have working mothers reacted to the pandemic?\u201d.<\/em><\/strong> The data painted a picture of <strong>mothers that have become stronger through the experience.<\/strong> After all, mothers are used to facing transitions throughout their personal life. Riccarda Zezza highlighted that \u201cthis period of pandemic has revealed the <strong>natural leadership skills that mothers have\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked <strong><em>&#8220;Has this transition improved your leadership skills?&#8221;<\/em><\/strong> addressed to new parents, <strong>71% of the participants answered yes<\/strong>. In particular, in mothers the perception of improving their leadership skills through their care roles is higher (74%) and in new mothers it reaches 79%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the whole world is going through a phase of transition, <strong>women&#8217;s change management skills<\/strong> have been incredibly useful for the business world. We now need to&nbsp;<strong>change the cultural and social paradigms<\/strong>: giving <strong>women a better representation in management roles<\/strong> to truly change the world of work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>A new centre of gravity<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our centre of gravity has shifted to focus on relationships. Shared responsibilities are perceived differently, according to <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Giovanna Della Posta CEO at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.invimit.it\/\">Invimit<\/a><\/strong><\/span>: \u201c<em>I&#8217;m a working mother, but I prefer to say we&#8217;re a family that works. When we <strong>move the family&#8217;s centre of gravity<\/strong>, the mother&#8217;s ability to react becomes the family&#8217;s ability to react\u201d<\/em>. A change that can come through working on how aware we are of new milestones. <em>\u201cWe can change this world by putting women in the driving seat to change these processes.<strong> It&#8217;s our job to change the culture, taking a step forward each day\u201d<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>A greater awareness<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Maria Laura Garofalo CEO at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.garofalohealthcare.com\/\">Garofaolo Health Care <\/a><\/strong><\/span>believes that women have the advantage in the pandemic. They&#8217;ve been able to react to uncertainty with <em>&#8220;<strong>greater certainty, courage, sacrifice and empathy<\/strong>, in a practical and transferable way\u201d<\/em>. Attitudes that are needed to change the world of work, as well as building a more efficient and productive country. A system that excludes women from high levels of management and that doesn&#8217;t value them based on their professional worth. Real change can only happen <em>\u201cthrough <strong>greater awareness and sharing cultural points of view<\/strong>, as well as a system that honours people based on their merits\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Privilege becomes responsibility<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Teams are built on shared objectives and needs. Only those that are on the team can really make a difference to the culture, that <em>\u201crequires everyone to contribute &#8211; even those who are most privileged\u201d<\/em>, says <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Angela Paparone HR Lead Italia at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-gb\">Microsoft<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span><strong>An opportunity to become a positive role model for women<\/strong>, but most importantly to be there. <em>\u201cWhen we&#8217;re there, we need to have the courage to say hard things\u201d.<\/em> An active presence can generate change. <em><strong>\u201cWe need to be strong and aware <\/strong>of what we can contribute. We need to give a voice to new ways of working that can help women through their complexities&#8221;.<\/em> Social responsibility that drives change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"420\" src=\"https:\/\/lifeed.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/HEADER-BLOG-2-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24114\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lifeed.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/HEADER-BLOG-2-1.png 640w, https:\/\/lifeed.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/HEADER-BLOG-2-1-600x394.png 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><b>New allies<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A social, political and cultural change to drive our economies in a new direction. That&#8217;s why <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Francesca Polti, General Director at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.polti.com\/company\/the-group\/\">Polti Group<\/a><\/strong><\/span> has invited entrepreneurs to <strong>re-evaluate their human resources<\/strong> <em>\u201cbecause teams must be seen as true resources to bring variety to the company and understand <strong>the skills that working mothers can bring to the workplace<\/strong>\u201d.<\/em> It&#8217;s about rethinking our working and family models,&nbsp; <em><strong>\u201ceducating both genders\u201d <\/strong><\/em>on positive models of shared responsibilities. As Francesca says, <em>\u201cwe need to speak directly to the dads out there\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Polti then asked mothers to <strong>believe in themselves more<\/strong>, expressing their abilities at home and at work. <em>\u201cDon&#8217;t be scared to show off your skills and let them be recognized\u201d.<\/em> According to Polti, we need to focus on <strong>anti-fragility<\/strong>, or rather the &#8220;ability to grow, improve and strengthen ourselves, not being afraid of change but learning to manage it, seeing risks as opportunities&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>A training program like no other<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Working to break down stereotypes is something that&#8217;s familiar to<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong> Luisa Todini, President at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comitatoleonardo.it\/it\/\">Comitato Leonardo<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenarrow-capital.com\/en\/\">Green Arrow Capital<\/a>.<\/strong><\/span> She underlined the importance of teaming up with other women to share in the same experiences. <em><strong>\u201cBeing a working mother is like a master&#8217;s and a PhD rolled into one. <\/strong>No academic training can teach us and leave a positive trace like being a mother can\u201d.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pandemic has been a sort of stress test for all. Women, above all working mothers, &#8220;have reacted with strength, revealing a <strong>natural disposition to face the changes<\/strong> that are born out of transitions&#8221;. As we gradually return to some form of normality, we&#8217;ll need <strong>&#8220;suitable structural tools<\/strong> that focus on long-term planning and less bureaucracy&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>A new approach to time<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The need to multitask means sharing tasks with our partners, as well as being patient with our family rhythms. But it also means <strong>managing our working time differently<\/strong>. For&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Laura Villani Managing Director and Partner at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcg.com\/en-gb\/\">Boston Consulting Group<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, the pandemic represents a social watershed that <em>\u201ceven in difficult times, it&#8217;s bought positive elements to the table and has <strong>confirmed how reactive women are<\/strong>\u201d<\/em>, when facing emergencies. Finally, Villani believes that we need to <strong>see time as being valuable<\/strong>: <em>\u201cI&#8217;d like to see a world that values time more, a world that gives everyone the opportunity to be a leader.<\/em> A world that recognizes that everyone has something good to offer to the world that surrounds them\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How have working mothers reacted to the pandemic?
